The Yajurveda contains prose mantras used in Vedic sacrifices. It is split into the Krishna (Black) and Shukla (White) Yajurveda. The famous Shri Rudram is found in the Krishna Yajurveda.

Shri Rudram — The Supreme Hymn to Shiva

Found in the Krishna Yajurveda (Taittiriya Samhita), the Shri Rudram is the most sacred hymn to Shiva. It describes His 1,000 forms and grants all boons when chanted.

Famous Stories

Namakam and Chamakam

The Shri Rudram has two parts: Namakam (invoking the names of Rudra, asking Him to avert His destructive power) and Chamakam (asking Rudra to grant specific blessings). Together they represent surrender and grace.
