Meaning

The Linga worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and all the gods; the Linga that shines with immaculate brilliance; the Linga that destroys the sorrow born of worldly existence — to that eternal Shivalinga I bow.

Story & History

Adi Shankaracharya composed the Lingashtakam as a meditation on the Shivalinga — the formless form of Shiva. Each of the eight verses reveals a different quality of the divine symbol.
