जटाटवीगलज्जलप्रवाहपावितस्थले
गलेऽवलम्ब्य लम्बितां भुजङ्गतुङ्गमालिकाम्।
डमड्डमड्डमड्डमन्निनादवड्डमर्वयं
चकार चण्डताण्डवं तनोतु नः शिवः शिवम्॥

Meaning
The one whose matted hair holds the rushing Ganga, who wears a garland of great serpents on His neck, who fills the sky with the sound of Damaru — may that Shiva who performs the fierce Tandava dance grant us auspiciousness.
Story & History
The Shiva Tandava Stotram was composed by the great king Ravana. He had lifted Mount Kailash to take it to Lanka. Shiva, unperturbed, pressed His big toe and pinned Ravana under the mountain. Ravana composed this 17-verse hymn and sang it with ten voices for 1,000 years. Shiva, pleased, freed him.
