Meaning & Significance
The third eye of Shiva represents omniscience, higher perception, and the power to destroy illusion. When opened, it burns away everything that is false.
The Story
When the god Kama (love) shot an arrow at Shiva while He meditated, the third eye opened and reduced Kama to ashes. It also burned the three celestial cities of the demon Tripurasura.
