Meaning & Significance
The Damaru represents the primordial sound of creation — Nada Brahma. Its two heads represent pairs of opposites in creation: male-female, past-future, pleasure-pain.
The Story
When Shiva performed the Ananda Tandava, the sound of the Damaru gave birth to language. The 14 Maheshwara Sutras — the foundation of Sanskrit grammar — emerged from its beats.
